A few thoughts on his teams:

• Steele went with Seth Russell as his second-team QB. I would have gone with Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph, who accomplished more in three games last year than Russell or Texas Tech's Pat Mahomes.

• No argument with Steele's first-team offensive skill players. But that second team crop is pretty stout, too.

• No TCU offensive linemen on Steele's first team. Joey Hunt or Halapoulivaati Vaitai are certainly deserving of consideration, though. The Horned Frogs boast one of the best offensive lines in the league.

• Linebacker is tricky. There are seven to eight players who are pretty close. Steele went with the seniors. Interestingly, Texas true freshman Malik Jefferson was named fourth team. I can't disagree with that, either.

• After West Virginia's Karl Joseph and Oklahoma's Zack Sanchez, secondary is tricky, too. Baylor's Orion Stewart has first-team ability, though Kansas State's Dante Barnett and Oklahoma State's Jordan Sterns are coming off better seasons. The Longhorns really need Duke Thomas to perform like a first-team CB.
