SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Three practices were enough to convince Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh that pass rusher Jason Babin can make an impact in Sunday's game at the Oakland Raiders.

Babin signed a one-year deal with the Ravens on Tuesday, which came three days after Terrell Suggs was lost for the season with an Achilles injury.

"He's a veteran player. His whole thing is making sure where to line up," Harbaugh said Friday after the Ravens' final practice at San Jose State. "He's been in the defense. He's a really smart guy. I'm very confident that he can line up and play good football."

The Ravens probably will use Babin only in passing situations, which means he might get only 25 to 30 snaps. Baltimore's starting outside linebackers are Courtney Upshaw and Elvis Dumervil, who takes over Suggs' rush linebacker spot.

Babin is ready to play in the regular season. He spent the entire preseason and training camp with the New York Jets before they cut him eight days before the opener.

"It’s not like I haven’t played any football," Babin said. "I basically had a bye week last week – early bye week – so I’m ready to rock and roll.”
