Banged-up Ravens offensive line won't affect Joe Flacco's playing time

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Seven of the Baltimore Ravens' top nine offensive linemen have dealt with injuries this week. The left side of the line -- tackle Eugene Monroe (hand) and guard Kelechi Osemele (Achilles) -- has not practiced all week.

Will the state of the Ravens' offensive line affect the number of reps for quarterback Joe Flacco in Saturday's preseason game against the Washington Redskins?

"I think if something happens in the game, it possibly could," coach John Harbaugh said. "But the way we're going into the game, to start the game, we're comfortable with the guys who are play and going to start on the offensive line that they'll do a great job."

Of the Ravens' top nine offensive linemen, only guard Marshal Yanda and center Jeremy Zuttah have not missed any practice time the last two weeks. The list of banged-up linemen is a long one: Monroe, Osemele, right tackle Rick Wagner (foot), offensive tackle James Hurst (concussion), guard John Urschel (concussion), offensive tackle Jah Reid (back), center-guard Ryan Jensen (undisclosed), offensive tackle De'Ondre Wesley (knee) and offensive tackle Darryl Baldwin (undisclosed).

Judging from Harbaugh's comments, you have to wonder whether Monroe will be able to play Saturday. It would be risky to play Flacco behind a third-string tackle protecting his blind side. If Monroe can't play, the Ravens' starting left side could be Reid at tackle and Urschel at guard.

"Lord willing, we'll have enough to play," offensive coordinator Marc Trestman said. "And I say that with great sincerity and hope that we'll get enough guys that we can play. But we have enough, and we're excited for them. We have good guys -- not just good guys, but guys that we think are good football players, and if they have to play, they're going to match up against a very, very good defensive line and a very good front seven. That'll be the challenge, and we'll work through that.”

In two preseason games, the Redskins have recorded six quarterback hits and 27 hurries. Washington lost one of its top pass-rushers, Junior Galette, to a ruptured Achilles at the end of Wednesday's practice.
