Ravens could be in line for an additional draft pick

The Baltimore Ravens might receive one more compensatory pick than everyone was expecting.

The assumption is the Ravens will gain three additional picks because of their net loss in free agency last offseason. The Ravens lost four significant unrestricted free agents -- defensive end Arthur Jones (Indianapolis), offensive tackle Michael Oher (Tennessee), cornerback Corey Graham (Buffalo), and safety James Ihedigbo (Detroit) -- and they signed only one in safety Darian Stewart from St. Louis.

But one of my Twitter followers suggested the Ravens should be in line for a fourth after losing tight end Ed Dickson to the Carolina Panthers last year. According to our friends at overthecap.com, Dickson is considered to be "on the bubble" as to whether he qualifies for a compensatory pick.

Dickson's salary ($795,000) and playing time (47.3 percent of the snaps) result in a seventh-round pick in some projections. That would essentially replace the seventh-rounder the Ravens gave to the Detroit Lions in the Haloti Ngata trade, and give the Ravens a maximum of four compensatory picks for the third straight year.

The NFL will announce compensatory picks for each team at the league owners meetings at the end of the month.

Based on the formula that overthecap.com uses, the Ravens should get at the very least three compensatory picks, with an extra pick in the fourth (for Jones), fifth (for Oher) and sixth round (for Graham).

If the Ravens get an additional one for Dickson, they would have a total of 11 picks in the 2015 draft.

Here are the seven draft picks that the Ravens have (before adding compensatory picks:

First round: (one pick, No. 26 overall)

Second round: (one pick)

Third round: (one pick)

Fourth round: (two picks, acquired the Detroit Lions' fourth-round pick in trading Haloti Ngata)

Fifth round: (one pick, traded their fifth-rounder to Tampa Bay Buccaneers for center Jeremy Zuttah and received the Lions' fifth-rounder from Ngata trade)

Sixth round: (one, traded their own sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for a 2014 seventh-rounder which they used to select wide receiver Michael Campanaro, and acquired the Cowboys' sixth-rounder in Rolando McClain trade)

Seventh round: (none, traded their seventh-round pick to Cowboys as part of the McClain deal, acquired the Dolphins' seventh-rounder in the Bryant McKinnie trade and gave that Dolphins' seventh-rounder to Lions as part of Ngata trade)
