FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- There's a reason why Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Mohamed Sanu appreciates the NFL's decision to relax the rules on footwear this season.
The Falcons' dominant footwear has been black, and players are subject to fines for wearing game shoes not declared the dominant color.
Not any longer.
"At least you can wear white now, and all red," Sanu said. "So I'll probably do stuff like that. My favorite color is gold, but I can't wear those. So I'll probably wear the white ones or the red ones more often.
"I'm happy I get to wear white cleats. I've been wanting to wear white cleats for years. Both teams I've been on (the Falcons and Bengals), the predominant team color has been black."
Sanu thinks it will be cool to change up his shoe game a little bit. The Falcons can wear white, silver, black, and red under the new guidelines. Sanu wore red in the first exhibition at Miami then wore black Sunday in Pittsburgh.
The league also will allow players to wear customized cleats on the field prior to warm-ups, so Sanu can wear his gold ones then. During training camp, he broke out some Charlie Brown-themed cleats.

"The rule states we can only wear them in pre, pregame, so I don't know if I'll be doing a lot this year," he said.
Sanu was going to have his own designer shoe, made by TruSox, but it never came to fruition. He recently signed with Under Armour, joining teammate and fellow receiver Julio Jones.
Last season, Sanu had personalized cleats for moments such as 9/11 and Breast Cancer Awareness month.
