Analyzing the Falcons' tight ends

We continue our look at the Falcons roster by breaking down the tight ends:

TIGHT END

THE CAST: Jacob Tamme, Levine Toilolo, Tony Moeaki, Mickey Shuler, Kyle Miller

2015 CAP NUMBERS: Tamme ($1,387,500), Toilolo ($660,146), Moeaki ($585,000), Shuler ($585,000), Miller ($510,000)

THE BREAKDOWN: The Falcons addressed a need with some low-cost free-agent signings in Tamme and Moeaki. Tamme is known for his pass-catching and has benefited from played with Peyton Manning the bulk of his career while Moeaki, originally a Scott Pioli draft pick in Kansas City, is more of a blocker. Those additions put Toilolo on notice a year after he had a handful of key drops while starting all 16 games. Tamme should take over as the starter, but offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan uses multiple tight ends in his scheme.

THE DRAFT: The Falcons worked out top tight end prospect Maxx Williams from Minnesota early in the draft process and also worked out Miami’s Clive Walford. Plus they put Michigan wide receiver/tight end Devin Funchess through a workout in an H-back role. Obviously the Falcons are being thorough with the process, as they should be. It would be interesting if Williams was available in the second round. He has Pro Bowl potential in the future, if not immediately.
