Oakland rookie cornerback D.J. Hayden suffered a minor hamstring injury. He was not going to play in Friday’s preseason opener against Dallas, anyway. He has yet to be cleared for contact because of his recovery from a life-threatening heart surgery last November. Oakland coach Dennis Allen has said Hayden, the No. 12 overall pick in the April draft, will play in the preseason.
San Diego safety Brandon Taylor took another step in his recovery from a torn ACL. He was practicing in team drills Monday. He was working in individual drills last week.
Oakland guards Mike Brisiel and Lucas Nix returned to practice. Nix was working some with the first team Monday. He is fighting 2012 third-round pick Tony Bergstrom for the starting job.
The Chargers signed linebacker Jerrell Harris. He was on three different practice squads last season, including in Oakland. He is an Alabama product. He’s a longshot to make the roster.
