          Round 5 of the 2026 AFLW season kicks off with four matches on Saturday, as the Hawks host the Bulldogs in a top-eight clash to open the weekend.

          SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12

          Hawthorn vs. Western Bulldogs

          Aine McDonagh has fired Hawthorn to an 11-point AFLW win over the Western Bulldogs that was soured by captain Emily Bates' serious leg injury.

          Bates was taken off the field on a stretcher at the Kennedy Community Centre on Saturday after her right leg twisted underneath her in a tackle late in the third quarter.

          The Hawks also lost Laura Stone (concussion) after an early head clash with an opponent and were 11 points down at half-time.

          But Daniel Webster's side piled on five unanswered goals in the third quarter -- four of those before Bates' injury -- to set up their 6.5 (41) to 4.6 (30) victory.

          Ash Riddell has racked up 39 disposals as North Melbourne smiled their way through a scare to keep their record AFLW winning run rolling with a 10-point victory over Carlton.

          In front of more than 3500 supporters at Arden Street on Sunday, a boilover was on the cards after the Blues kicked back-to-back goals against the breeze in the second quarter to take a three-point lead.

          The game was still in the balance in the dying minutes, with Carlton's Lily Goss having the chance to close a 10-point deficit to four after taking a mark 35 metres out.

          But not realising there was a player behind her, Goss played on and was immediately tackled, with the moment proving Carlton's last chance to fire a shot as North held on -- 4.9 (33) to 3.5 (23).
