Stanford Cardinal @ Arizona State Sun Devils
No. 25 ASU turns back No. 24 Stanford
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Charnea Johnson-Chapman scored a career-high 16 points and No. 25 Arizona State made 10 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to defeat No. 24 Stanford 73-66 on Sunday.
Reili Richardson added 11 pints for the Sun Devils (13-3, 4-0 Pac-12), who won their sixth straight.
Billed as "Snow Day" with fans invited to play in trucked-in snow before the game, frigid shooting doomed the Cardinal (9-7, 3-1) late in the game. Brittany McPhee and Kiana Williams scored on consecutive possessions early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 50. After that, the Cardinal went 3 of 18 until making their last three shots in the final 24 seconds.
Richardson's basket broke the tie and Johnson-Chapman followed with two inside buckets. The only reason Stanford stayed close is Arizona State went just 10 of 18 from the foul line. The Sun Devils finished the game 24 of 39 at the line to 5 of 9 for the Cardinal. Stanford finished 7 of 24 behind the arc and 27 of 65 overall (41.5 percent).
Williams had 14 points, DiJonai Carrington had 13 and McPhee 12 for the Cardinal, who were outrebounded 47-24. Johnson-Chapman had nine boards for the Sun Devils.
