No. 21 George Washington women advance in A-10 tourney 77-63
RICHMOND, Va. -- Caira Washington scored a season-high 24 points to lead No. 21-ranked and top-seeded George Washington into the semifinals of the Atlantic-10 women's basketball tournament with a 77-63 victory over ninth-seeded Saint Louis on Friday.
Jonquel Jones scored 14 points and had 15 rebounds for her 18th double-double of the season for the Colonials (27-3). Hannah Schaible also scored 14 points and Lauren Chase had 12.
On Saturday, George Washington will play No. 4 seed Fordham, a 46-45 winner over fifth-seeded Richmond, in a semifinal.
Jamesia Price scored 20 points for the Billikens (15-16), with Jackie Kemph adding 17 and Sadie Stipanovich 10.
GW never trailed and took its first double-digit lead early in the second half. The Colonials led by 19 with 9:42 to go when the Billikens made a run, closing to 70-63 with 1:22 remaining before GW scored the game's final seven points.
Saint Louis handed GW its only defeat during the A-10 season, winning at home 79-61 on Feb. 11.
