No. 20 Florida Gulf Coast women race past N. Florida 74-35
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Jenna Cobb and Kaneisha Atwater scored 12 points apiece to lead top-seeded No. 20 Florida Gulf Coast to a 74-35 win over eighth-seeded North Florida in the Atlantic Sun Conference quarterfinals Friday night.
Whitney Knight and Stephanie Haas added 11 points apiece while Anthi Chatzigiakoumi had 10 for FGCU (28-2), which controlled the boards 44-33 and held North Florida to just 25.5 percent shooting to extend its win streak to 23. Knight also pulled down eight rebounds.
The Eagles, who never trailed, opened the game with a 16-2 run that included 3-pointers from Knight, Atwater and Chatzigiakoumi. The margin never fell below double figures the rest of the way.
Sierra Shepherd led North Florida (11-19) with eight points and Destinee Smith added five points.
Florida Gulf Coast, the defending tournament champion, will play No. 4 Jacksonville on Wednesday.
