No. 16 Princeton remains undefeated, beats Yale by six
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Alex Wheatley scored 18 points and Annie Tarakchian added 14 points and 11 rebounds as No. 16 Princeton edged Yale 56-50 on Saturday night to remain the only undefeated Division I women's basketball team.
Tarakchian scored on a layup with 46 seconds left and followed a bucket by Yale's Mary Ann Santucci with two free throws for a 55-50 lead. Wheatley blocked a shot and added a final free throw with 8 seconds left.
The Tigers (23-0, 7-0 Ivy League) used a 7-0 spurt to take a 25-22 halftime lead. Tarakchian hit a 3-pointer to give Princeton its largest lead at 38-30. The Bulldogs were within a point three times after that and closed to 51-48 on Whitney Wyckoff's layup with 2:38 left.
Santucci scored 13 points for Yale (11-11, 5-3).
Yale shot 30 percent, 15 percent lower than Princeton, but hit six more 3-pointers, had 10 more offensive rebounds and eight fewer turnovers.
