No. 25 Northwestern women wallop No. 20 Rutgers 80-60
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Ashley Deary scored 19 points and Maggie Lyon 17 as Northwestern placed five players in double-figure scoring to win its eighth in a row and hand Rutgers its worst defeat of the season 80-60 on Thursday night.
With the win, Northwestern (22-6, 12-5 Big Ten) has defeated four ranked teams in a season for the second time in program history and the first since 1978-79.
Nia Coffey added 15 points with 10 rebounds for the Wildcats, her seventh double-double in the last eight games. Lauren Douglas added 13 points and Alex Cohen 10 with five blocked shots.
Betnijah Laney scored 21 and Kahleah Copper 20 for Rutgers (20-8, 11-6). Laney added 11 boards for her 17th double-double of the season.
Northwestern scored 54 points in the paint, the most given up by the Scarlet Knights this season. The Wildcats outrebounded Rutgers 41-37 and blocked eight shots.
