No. 21 Rutgers women hold on to beat Michigan 57-50
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Betnijah Laney scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists as No. 21 Rutgers held on to beat Michigan 57-50 on Sunday for its sixth straight victory.
Rutgers (18-5, 9-3 Big Ten) travels to conference leader, No. 5 Maryland, on Tuesday night.
Kahleah Copper added 16 points for Rutgers. Tyler Scaife, the Scarlet Knights leading scorer, was held to just six points on 3-of-11 shooting.
Rutgers led 39-27 with 12:32 to play before Michigan used an 18-8 run, including 12 points by Shannon Smith, to pull within 47-45 with 4:04 left. The Wolverines then missed their next seven field goals before Nicole Elmblad hit a jumper to make it 55-50 with 27 seconds left. Rachel Hollivay answered with a layup to seal it for Rutgers.
Smith scored 19 points and Siera Thompson chipped in 14 for Michigan (14-9, 6-6).
