No. 11 Kentucky routs Appalachian State 111-74
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Jennifer O'Neill scored 21 points and six other players reached double figures to lead No. 11 Kentucky in a 111-74 victory over Appalachian State in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
Kyvin Goodin-Rogers, who returned to action after sitting out last season with a pulmonary embolism, opened it with two straight 3-pointers just 48 seconds in to spark a 20-4 run and No. 11 Kentucky never trailed. Goodin-Rogers scored nine of her 11 points in the first half, and O'Neill chipped in another six points as the Wildcats built a 58-42 halftime lead.
O'Neill finished 6 of 12 from the field and hit three 3-pointers and grabbed eight rebounds.
Maryah Sydnor scored 33 points on 12-of-23 shooting and had seven rebounds while Katie Mallow added 13 points to lead Appalachian State.
Kentucky has won six straight home openers. It was the first matchup between the schools.
