No. 23 Syracuse women beat Pittsburgh 68-60
PITTSBURGH -- Alexis Peterson and Brianna Butler scored 14 points apiece and No. 23 Syracuse women beat Pittsburgh 68-60 on Thursday.
Pitt's Yacine Diop made back-to-back buckets to bring the Panthers within two at 62-60 with 3:31 left. But Syracuse ran off six straight points -- including a jumper and free throw from Diamond Henderson -- and Pitt didn't score again, missing its last six shots and two free throws.
Syracuse (14-5, 4-2 ACC) raced out to a 10-4 lead in the first five minutes, backed by an Isabella Slim 3-pointer. A 6-0 run late in the half gave the Orange a four-point lead, 30-26, at the intermission.
Cornelia Fondren scored 13 points with 10 boards while Briana Day had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Orange.
Pittsburgh (12-6, 2-3) was led by Monica Wignot with 16 points. Brianna Kiesel added 14 points and Stasha Carey had 11 points and 12 boards.
