Alexis Peterson's career-high 19 points power Syracuse
FREEPORT, Grand Bahama Island -- Alexis Peterson scored 19 points, matching her career high, as No. 22 Syracuse beat East Carolina 69-58 and advanced to Friday's championship in the Lucaya Division of the Junkanoo Jam.
Peterson scored 12 points in the first half when the Orange (4-0), after trailing 6-2 early, went on a 14-0 run. Syracuse led 47-27 at the half, thanks to 44 percent shooting and six 3-pointers -- against just one for the Lady Pirates (5-1) in the period.
Brianna Butler and Briana Day scored 13 points each. Syracuse scored at least 40 in the first half for the third straight game.
Butler scored 11 of Syracuse's first 30 points. Day had 10 rebounds and Peterson five assists.
East Carolina's I'Tiana Taylor scored a career-high 22 in her first-career start.
Syracuse will play South Carolina for the Lucaya Division championship. East Carolina (5-1) meets Wisconsin for third place.
