Holmes with 27, leads No. 23 W. Virginia over Duquesne 79-60
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Bria Holmes had 27 points and five steals to help No. 23 West Virginia roll to a 79-60 victory over Duquesne on Wednesday night.
Tyara Warren drained a 3-pointer to end the first half and give West Virginia a 40-32 lead. In the second, Jose-Ann Johnson split a pair of free throws to pull Duquesne within 47-43 with 14:07 to play. West Virginia answered with a 14-2 run, with six points by Holmes, to stretch the lead to 61-45 with 9:21 remaining and Mountaineers lead by double digits the rest of the way.
Holmes was 13 of 24 from the field and dished out four assists. Averee Fields added 20 points for West Virginia (7-1), unbeaten at home.
April Robinson scored 14 points, Deva'Nyar Workman had 11 points and Johnson chipped in 10 for Duquesne (5-4). Workman gave Duquesne its only lead, 12-10, with 11:29 left in the first half.
