No. 20 California beats Idaho 59-55
RENO, Nev. -- Brittany Boyd scored 15 points as No. 20 California defeated Idaho 59-55 in the championship game of the John Ascuaga's Nugget Classic Saturday night.
Boyd also had eight rebounds, eight assists and a steal for the Golden Bears (5-2). Reshanda Gray hit 5 of 10 from the field and 2 of 3 from the line for 12 points. Courtney Range chipped in with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
After trailing Idaho 22-18 in the first period, California opened up a 14-0 run, holding Idaho scoreless for the final 4:37 of the first period to lead 30-22 at the break. But the Vandals battled back in the second, coming within just two points at 43-41 with 7:30 remaining in play.
The lead changed hands seven times during the contest.
Stacey Barr led the Vandals (4-3) with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The win is the fourth straight for the Golden Bears.
