Lawson scores 24 points, Mystics rally to beat Sun 89-82
WASHINGTON -- Kara Lawson scored a season-best 24 points, LaToya Sanders had six of her season-best 17 points in the final 4 minutes and the Washington Mystics rallied to beat the Connecticut Sun 89-82 on Sunday night.
The Mystics (8-6) pulled away with a late 10-2 run. Stefanie Dolson scored three of her 20 points during the run, and Sanders hit consecutive mid-range jumpers as Washington broke the 10th and final tie to take an 84-76 lead with less than a minute left.
Connecticut (7-7) has lost six in a row after winning its previous seven. Kelsey Bone led the Sun with 24 points, and Shekinna Stricklen added 19 -- hitting a season-high five 3-pointers to score 15 points before halftime. Alex Bentley added 18.
The Sun's scheduled game Saturday with Indiana was postponed when the Fever were unable to fly, and the travel irregularities continued as the Sun took Amtrak to Washington, arriving at midnight, instead of flying Sunday morning.
