What is at stake at UFC Freedom 250 at the White House?

Ilia Topuria defends his lightweight belt against Justin Gaethje in the main-event. For popular veteran Gaethje, who earned this shot by beating Paddy Pimblett, it is surely a final opportunity to claim UFC gold. But for Gaethje to win, and fly the American flag at the White House, he must overcome the fearsome Topuria who is ESPN's No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter.

Alex Pereira is stepping into a third weight division aiming to create more history against Ciryl Gane. The Brazilian has spectacularly won UFC titles at middleweight and light-heavyweight and is now making his heavyweight debut, with the interim championship at stake.

Heavyweights Josh Hokit and Derrick Lewis earned late call-ups to the card partly due to a request from President Trump, according to Dana White.

How is Tom Aspinall impacted?

Britain's Tom Aspinall holds the undisputed UFC heavyweight championship but has sidelined due to eye injuries sustained in his most recent fight, against Gane last year. That fight ended in a drab no-contest when Aspinall was unable to continue due to accidental eye pokes.

UFC boss White has admitted that Aspinall was his Plan A to fight at the White House until his injuries rendered him unable to.

Pereira and Gane will decide the interim version of Aspinall's belt, in his absence.

Aspinall now counts Eddie Hearn, who is White's new rival in the boxing promoter space, among his management team. Hearn said that the UFC have not invited Aspinall to attend the White House card. He has also advised Aspinall against fighting under the terms of his current contract.

But, Aspinall remains committed to his MMA future and Hearn concedes he will not cross over into boxing.

All roads should lead Aspinall to fighting the winner of Gane vs. Pereira.
