India went down to a 1-6 defeat at the hands of Uruguay at the Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata, with Anirudh Thapa scoring a lone consolation for India. A Maxi Araújo brace, with goals from Darwin Núñez, Rodrigo Zalazar, Juan Sanabria and Rodrigo Aguirre handed Diego Forlan's side a comprehensive victory as India finished their international break with a 1-1 draw to Panama, a 0-4 loss to Brazil and this defeat to Uruguay.

Like the game against Brazil, India began brightly, but unlike that contest were swiftly pegged back when Pramveer conceded an early penalty after sliding in on Federico Viñas in the box. Darwin Nunez stepped up, and sent Gurpreet the wrong way, giving the visitors the lead in the 11th minute of the game.

India remained a threat on the break, and it paid off in the 22nd minute as Ryan Williams led a transition through the middle. He powered a shot towards goal on the edge of the box, with Uruguay goalkeeper Thiago Cardozo was forced to palm out to Anirudh Thapa, who tucked in the rebound with a calm sidefoot into the net.

India almost took the lead soon after as Williams found Edmund Lalrindika in space on the edge of the box, but he dallied, before going down under very little pressure in the box as the referee waved play on. The hydration break turned into a lighting stoppage as the game was paused for about 37 minutes before resuming.

India's momentum had disappeared and just a minute into resumption, Maxi Araujo made it 2-1 to Uruguay, turning in Nahitan Nández's low cross from close range as the visitors retained their lead going into the second half.

Forlan's side were much more composed in the second half, not letting India transition, while keeping a hold of the ball much more. Rodrigo Zalazar made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute with a bullet of a strike from the edge of the box, before Araujo sealed the victory six minutes later with a clever finish across Gurpreet after being put through on goal by Vinas.

It was Uruguay's turn to hit India on the break in the 71st minute after a raft of substitutions on both sides, with Juan Sanabria volleying in Facundo Pellistri's deflected cross, after which Rodrigo Aguirre completed the scoring in the 86th minute with a curled strike from the edge of the box into the top corner to make it 6-1.
