Former lightweight title challenger Donald Cerrone will make his second welterweight appearance on June 18, when he faces Canadian veteran Patrick Cote.
UFC officials announced the matchup on Friday. The bout will take place at UFC Fight Night in Ottawa, Canada. An official venue has not yet been announced.
Cerrone (29-7), 32, came up short in a 155-pound title bid against Rafael dos Anjos in December, suffering a TKO loss just 66 seconds into the championship fight. Cerrone wasted little time getting back in the Octagon, accepting a 170-pound bout against Alex Oliveira last month and winning by first-round submission.
He offered to fight featherweight champion Conor McGregor at UFC 196 earlier this month, but that opportunity ultimately went to Nate Diaz. Fighting out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cerrone is 9-1 in his last 10.
Cote (23-9), a former middleweight, has been seeking a big-name opponent of late and has won six of his last seven. His only loss during that run came via decision to welterweight title contender Stephen Thompson. Cote is coming off a second-round knockout win over Ben Saunders in January.
A welterweight fight between Rory MacDonald (18-3) and Thompson (12-1) is scheduled to headline the UFC Fight Night event.
