Valparaiso earns 59-50 victory against Illinois State
NORMAL, Ill. -- — Cooper Schwieger had 16 points in Valparaiso's 59-50 win over Illinois State on Sunday.
Schwieger added 13 rebounds for the Beacons (5-12, 1-5 Missouri Valley Conference). Isaiah Stafford scored 11 points and added five rebounds. Darius DeAveiro had nine points and shot 3 of 12 from the field and 3 for 4 from the foul line. The Beacons snapped a 10-game losing streak.
Myles Foster led the Redbirds (8-9, 2-4) in scoring, finishing with nine points. Illinois State also got nine points from Darius Burford. Kendall Lewis also put up eight points and eight rebounds.
Valparaiso took the lead with 3:24 remaining in the first half and never looked back. Schwieger led their team in scoring with eight points in the first half to help put them ahead 28-20 at the break. Valparaiso outscored Illinois State in the second half by one point, with Stafford scoring a team-high eight points in the final half.
