Balanced Fresno State rallies past New Mexico 89-80
FRESNO, Calif. -- Deshon Taylor scored 22 points, including nine at the free-throw line, leading five into double figures as Fresno State rallied past New Mexico 89-80 Saturday night.
Fresno State (13-6, 3-3 Mountain West) made up a five-point gap when a Jahmel Taylor drive with just under eight minutes left gave the Bulldogs a 68-66 lead. Ray Bowles Jr. and Deshon Taylor made five of six free throws, adding to the lead, before Deshon Taylor hit a dagger of a 3-pointer to put Fresno State up 10 right after a New Mexico timeout. Taylor scored 10 of his points in the last five minutes.
Bryson Williams scored 15 points for Fresno State, making 7 of 9 from the floor, Bowles scored 14, Jaron Hopkins 13 and Jahmel Taylor 16 on 6-for-7 shooting.
The Bulldogs shot 65 percent, making 32 of 49, including 9 of 12 from distance.
Makuach Maluach scored a career-high 21 points for New Mexico (8-11, 3-3) before fouling out with 2:19 to play. Anthony Mathis added 18 points but also fouled out, while Chris McNeal scored 16.
