Manhattan Jaspers @ Quinnipiac Bobcats
Washington's bucket wins it for Quinnipiac 71-70
HAMDEN, Conn. -- Isaiah Washington's layup with seven seconds remaining lifted Quinnipiac to a 71-70 victory over Manhattan on Thursday night.
Rich Williams' 3-pointer gave Manhattan the lead with 18 seconds left before Cameron Young, double-teamed down low, found Washington cutting to the basket.
After a Manhattan timeout, Zavier Turner's 3-point try missed as did Pauly Paulicap's putback at the buzzer.
Young scored 27 points, making 11 of 12 free throws and had five assists for the Bobcats (10-17, 7-8), who gained a leg up on the Jaspers (12-15, 7-8) in the race for the fifth and final opening-round bye in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament. The teams have three games remaining, including a rematch in a regular-season finale on Feb. 25. Jacob Rigoni added 14 points and Abdulai Bundu 10 rebounds.
Rich Williams scored 29 points and Zane Waterman had 19 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh-career double-double for Manhattan.
