Dixon leads UT Rio Grande Valley over Chicago State 83-75
EDINBURG, Texas -- Nick Dixon scored 23 points and Texas-Rio Grande Valley beat Chicago State 83-75 on Saturday night.
UTRGV (15-15, 6-7 Western Athletic Conference) snapped a three-game skid. Chicago State (2-27, 0-13) remains winless in the conference.
Dixon was 5-of-12 shooting and made 12 of 13 free throws. Lew Stallworth added 14 points, and Javon Levi and Lesley Varner Jr. chipped in 10 points apiece for the Vaqueros. Terry Winn had a game-high 16 rebounds.
Glen Burns had 21 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals to lead Chicago State. Cameron Bowles had 20 points and Fred Sims Jr. added 19.
UTRGV opened the second half on a 19-7 surge for a 52-34 lead. The Cougars pulled to 60-55 before Stallworth scored eight of the Vaqueros' next 10 points and they had a 15-point lead with five minutes left.
Chicago State cut the deficit to 76-72 with 47 seconds to play, but the Vaqueros shot 7 of 8 from the line to end it.
