Holy Cross tops South Carolina St. in Brooklyn Hoops invite
WORCESTER, Mass. -- Robert Champion scored 18 points and Holy Cross rolled to a 73-57 victory in the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational on Friday.
South Carolina State (1-4) plays Monmouth on Saturday. The Crusaders (2-3) face the Hawks on Sunday to conclude the tournament.
Champion shot 6 of 10 from the floor and made three 3-pointers. Karl Charles had 14 points and a career-best nine assists for the Crusaders. Matt Husek added 12 points and Malachi Alexander chipped in 11.
Tashombe Riley scored 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting to lead South Carolina State. Eric Eaves had 12 points.
The Bulldogs scored the first basket before Holy Cross jumped out to a double-digit lead eight minutes into the game. South Carolina pulled to 31-25 with about a minute left in the first half but didn't get closer.
