Florida Gulf Coast races to 84-71 win over NJIT
FORT MEYERS, Fla. -- Brandon Goodwin scored 21 points, Zach Johnson added 19, and Florida Gulf Coast never trailed in an 84-71 win over NJIT on Saturday.
Goodwin grabbed six rebounds and tied a career high with four steals for the Eagles (15-6, 4-1 Atlantic Sun). Rayjon Tucker scored 16 points on 5-of-5 shooting and Christian Terrell added 12 points.
Florida Gulf Coast raced to a 20-5 lead five minutes in, but NJIT closed it to 41-30 at halftime and got within four (47-43) early in the second half. The Eagles made 14 of 23 from the field in the second half (61 percent), including 12 of their last 15 to close out the win.
Abdul Lewis scored 24 points and had nine rebounds for NJIT (9-12, 1-4), Tim Coleman added 13 points and Chris Jenkins 11.
Florida Gulf Coast had won seven straight before losing to SC Upstate on Thursday, 62-60.
