Temple surprises Memphis with a 74-62 win behind Rose
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Quinton Rose scored 18 points and Daniel Dingle and Shizz Alston Jr. each finished with 13 points to lead Temple past Memphis 74-62 on Sunday.
Craig Randall II's 3-pointer at 11:43 gave Memphis a 23-14 lead before Temple (14-12, 5-8 American Athletic) took over. The Owls lead for good on Dingle's layup 5:57 before halftime during an 18-0 run. The Tigers went scoreless in the last 8:42 and trailed 39-25 at intermission.
Dedric Lawson had nine points and his 3 capped a 20-4 run for Memphis (18-8, 8-5) that reduced the deficit to 57-54 with 6:19 left, but Temple responded with a 9-3 run and the Tigers wouldn't challenge again.
Lawson led Memphis with 27 points and 12 rebounds and Markel Crawford scored 15. K.J. Lawson added 10 boards for the Tigers as they fell to fourth place in conference a game behind Houston (18-7, 9-4).
