Breunig leads Montana over Sacramento State 70-53
RENO, Nev. -- Martin Breunig scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and second-seeded Montana defeated No. 10 seed Sacramento State 70-53 in a Big Sky tournament quarterfinal Thursday night.
Montana will play third-seeded Idaho in a semifinal Friday.
Breunig was 10 of 18 from the field in posting his 13th double-double of the season. Walter Wright added 12 points and Mario Dunn had 10 for the Grizzlies (20-10), who outrebounded the Hornets 40-26.
Justin Strings scored 14 points and Jeff Wu added 11 for the Hornets (14-17), who had won three straight and split the season series with Montana.
The Hornets led 5-1 before Wright made two 3-pointers and Breunig added two baskets for an 11-4 lead. Another Breunig basket gave the Grizzlies a 15-point halftime lead. The Hornets never got within single digits in the second half.
