Holy Cross beats cold-shooting Army 60-38 in Patriot semi
WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Robert Champion scored 15 points and Holy Cross routed Army 60-38 on Sunday in a Patriot League Tournament semifinal.
The ninth-seeded Crusaders (13-19) look to win their sixth tournament title, and their first since 2007, when they play at No. 2 seed Lehigh on Wednesday night.
No. 4 seed Army (19-13) scored a season-low, with just 12 points in the second half and was 12 of 53 from the field overall for 23-percent shooting.
Malachi Alexander added 13 points and Anthony Thompson 12 for Holy Cross, which has won three straight.
Kyle Wilson had 12 points and Tanner Plomb chipped in 11 for the Black Knights.
The Crusaders led 34-26 at halftime, and Larry Toomey made a 3-pointer to pull Army to 34-29 early in the second half. From there the Black Knights went cold, missing nine of their next 10 shots during a 10-minute stretch.
The teams split the regular season series but Holy Cross has won five-straight tournament matchups.
