Hampton helps Lipscomb advance past Jacksonville 92-89 in OT
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- J.C. Hampton scored a career-high 35 points and sixth-seeded Lipscomb knocked off No. 3 seed Jacksonville 92-89 in overtime in an Atlantic Sun tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday night.
Lipscomb (12-20) will face seventh-seeded Stetson, which upset No. 2 NJIT earlier on Tuesday. Eli Pepper scored 15 points with nine rebounds and the Bisons shot nearly 52 percent.
Lipscomb went up by four with 15 seconds left in overtime on a pair of Nathan Moran free throws. Jacksonville's Marcel White nailed a 3-pointer on the next possession and they put Moran back on the line with four seconds left. He made both, and Jacksonville couldn't get another shot off.
Tight down the stretch, Hampton's layup for Lipscomb tied it at 80 with 34 seconds left. Jacksonville turned it over, then Moran missed a 3-pointer with two seconds to go and it went to overtime.
Jacksonville (16-16) was led by freshman Darien Fernandez with a career-high 31 points. White recorded his career-high as well with 27 points.
