Green's 20 lead Rio Grande Valley over A&M-Kingsville 78-56
EDINBURG, Texas -- Antonio Green had 20 points, eight rebounds and four 3-pointers on Friday night, and Texas-Rio Grande Valley won its home opener 78-56 over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Vaqueros (1-2) opened the game with 9 straight points, and Green had 13 of his points in the first 14 minutes to help them build a 36-12 lead. Rio Grande Valley had its biggest advantage at 72-44 and led by no less than 17 in the second half.
Dakota Slaughter added 16 points, Shaquille Hines had 12 points and 10 rebounds and J.J. Thompson scored 11 for Rio Grande Valley.
Dj Weathers had 16 points and Jamar Goodwin scored 12 to lead the Division II Javelinas. Goodwin and Weathers had a pair of back-to-back 3-pointers in the second half, but A&M-Kingsville couldn't overcome 29.0 percent shooting for the game.
