LIU-Brooklyn rallies past NC Central 78-77 in final minutes
NEW YORK -- Jerome Frink scored 18 points and had a key block in the closing seconds to help Long Island-Brooklyn to a 78-77 comeback victory over North Carolina Central on Sunday.
The Blackbirds (3-0) took a 78-77 lead when Aakim Saintil hit 1 of 2 free throws with 24 seconds remaining. The Eagles, who were up 12 deep into the second half, missed two shots in those last 24 seconds, and Frink blocked a third and final try -- a Jeremiah Ingram layup with three seconds left, preserving the win.
Joel Hernandez scored 16 for the Blackbirds, and Martin Hermannsson and Saintil had 15 each. Saintil made 12 of 14 free throws.
Dante Holmes led NC Central (1-2) with a career-best 26 points in his first game this season. The 6-foot-3 senior made 4 of 5 3-pointers off the bench as part of shooting 9 for 14 from the field.
