Peterson's 24 points lead VMI past Tusculum, 88-76
LEXINGTON, Va. -- QJ Peterson scored 24, Julian Eleby added 16 on 6-of-9 shooting and VMI coach Dan Earl earned his first-career win as the Keydets rolled to an 88-76 victory over Tusculum on Tuesday night.
Peterson hit 7 of 12 field goals, including four 3-pointers, and Phillip Anglade finished with 12 points, on 6-of-8 shooting, and three blocked shots.
VMI (1-1) opened up an 18-8 lead when Peterson hit a 3 just more than five minutes into the game and closed the first half with a 13-0 run en route to a 58-29 lead at the break.
The Keydets made 22 of 32 first-half shots, including 8 of 14 from behind the arc, while Tusculum (1-1) shot just 29 percent and made 1-of-10 3-pointers before halftime.
Javon Price scored 18, Darius Carter added 16 and Kendall Patterson 11 points for D-II Tusculum.
