Sears has 31 as Yale pulls away from Penn
PHILADELPHIA -- Justin Sears matched his career-high with 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Yale bounced back from its first Ivy League loss with a 79-58 win over Penn on Saturday night.
Sears hit 12 of 17 from the field and 7 of 10 from the line. Five of his rebounds were on the offensive end.
Brandon Sherrod, who earlier this season set an NCAA record by making 30 consecutive shots, added 15 points for the Bulldogs (18-6, 9-1), who lost to Columbia 75-63 Friday night but remain a half-game in front of the Tigers. Both teams still have a game to play against second-place Columbia (8-2)
Matt Howard had 16 points and Darien Nelson-Henry had 15 for Penn (10-13, 4-5), which trailed 37-32 at the half.
Yale made just 1 of 6 3-pointers but shot 54 percent (29 of 54) while Penn shot 38 percent (20 of 53), including 3 of 18 behind the arc.
