Strong finish propels Iona past Quinnipiac 78-66
HAMDEN, Conn. -- Jordan Washington scored 19 points and had 15 rebounds to help Iona pull away midway in the second half and beat Quinnipiac 78-66 on Saturday.
A.J. English added 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Iona in his first game back after missing the last five with a hand injury. The Gaels (6-6, 3-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) have won consecutive games since snapping a three-game skid. Isaiah Williams chipped in 18 points with four 3-pointers.
Abdulai Bundu had 15 points with nine boards to lead Quinnipiac (4-8, 1-2).
The Bobcats had a 41-38 lead with 15 minutes left. English scored seven straight points to spark a 28-6 run and the Gaels led 66-48 with nine minutes remaining. English scored nine points, McGill had eight and Washington added seven during the spurt.
