Denver cruises to 76-69 win over Western Illinois
MACOMB, Ill. -- Nate Engesser scored 14 points to lead Denver to a 76-69 win over Western Illinois on Thursday night.
Marcus Byrd, Joe Rosga and Bryant Rucker contributed 11 points apiece for Denver (10-8, 2/3 Summit League), which hit 54 percent of its 50 shots from the field and 9 of 15 from long range. Duke Douglas added 10 points and six rebounds.
Western Illinois (7-8, 0-4) got a 3-pointer from J.C. Fuller to take an early lead 10-9 but Denver then took control with a 26-3 run over the next 13 minutes and later carried a 39-21 advantage into the break. Western Illinois closed the gap in the second half but never threatened the rest of the way.
Fuller finished with 17 points. Garret Covington added 16 points, Jabari Sandifer had 12 and Jalen Chapman 11 for Western Illinois, which has lost six straight.
