George Washington outlasts Davidson 79-69
WASHINGTON -- Patricio Garino scored 17 points, Tyler Cavanaugh 16 and George Washington defeated Davidson 79-69 on Wednesday night.
Garino 6 of 11 and Cavanaugh 6 of 13 from the floor for the Colonials (17-5, 6-3 Atlantic 10), who shot 53 percent. Yuta Watanabe added 13 points and Joe McDonald grabbed 10 rebounds with his nine points.
Jack Gibbs, ranked fourth in the nation in scoring, hit his scoring average with 25 points for Davidson (12-8, 5-4) with Brian Sullivan adding 13 points and Peyton Aldridge 11. The Wildcats shot 42 percent.
The Colonials outrebounded the Wildcats 38-29 and had a 40-22 scoring advantage in the paint.
A jumper by Garino with three minutes left gave George Washington a 10-point lead. Gibbs got the Wildcats within five on a 3-pointer with 1:35 remaining but they didn't score again.
