Dayton pulls away from Fordham in 64-50 win
NEW YORK -- Charles Cooke scored 26 points on 9-for-12 shooting to lead Dayton past Fordham 64-50 on Sunday.
Scoochie Smith added 14 points and Dyshawn Pierre had 12 plus nine rebounds for Dayton (16-3, 6-1 Atlantic 10), which controlled the glass 39-28 to win its fourth straight and remain just a game out of first place behind VCU. Cooke was 4 of 6 behind the arc.
The Flyers quickly took control, scoring 15 of the first 17 points. Smith got back-to-back 3-pointers in the run and took a 37-24 advantage into the break. Dayton stayed comfortably ahead the rest of the way.
Fordham (11-7, 2-5) got as close as 56-49 in the second half with Ryan Rhoomes' dunk but scored just one more point over the final 2:32.
Rhoomes finished with 14 points to lead three Fordham players in double figures.
