Rhode Island Rams @ George Washington Revolutionaries
Cavanaugh leads George Washington past Rhode Island 62-58
WASHINGTON -- Patricio Garino's jump shot with 1:32 left broke a tie game and George Washington sank five late free throws to seal a 62-58 win over Rhode Island on Friday.
Tyler Cavanaugh hit two of those free throws and finished the game with 13 points and 10 rebounds as he helped George Washington (15-4, 4-2 Atlantic 10) improve to 11-0 at home this season. Tipoff was moved up by four hours amid concerns about a large snowstorm moving up the East Coast.
Jarvis Garrett led the Rams (11-8, 3-3) with 15 points. Rhode Island led 46-39 with 12:01 left but went cold and the Colonials cut the lead to one with a 9-0 run over the next five minutes. Garino's layup tied the game at 52-52 with 4:13 left and his jumper nearly three minutes later gave George Washington the cushion it needed.
Garino was the only other Colonials player in double figures with 10 points. Jared Terrell scored 14 points and Kuran Iverson had 13 for the Rams.
