South Dakota beats UMKC 79-70
VERMILLION, S.D. -- Trey Norris scored 19 points with three 3-pointers, Tre Burnette added 18 points, and South Dakota beat the University of Missouri-Kansas City 79-70 on Tuesday night for its fifth straight victory.
The win comes on the heels of Saturday's double-overtime upset of Minnesota, 85-81.
Eric Robertson scored 12 points and Dan Jech added 10 and South Dakota (6-3) outscored UMKC 42-36 in the paint and shot 52 percent from the field (30 of 58).
Up 37-34 at halftime, South Dakota opened the second half with a 10-2 run in which Burnette and Norris each hit 3-pointers and led 49-38. The Coyotes pulled ahead by 14 points with 6:08 left, but the Kangaroos closed to within 66-61 on a 3 by LaVell Boyd with 3:56 left. Norris hit back-to-back 3s, then iced it with two free throws with 6 seconds left.
Boyd scored 25 points with five 3-pointers for UMKC (5-4).
