UMKC rallies to beat Drake 79-73
DES MOINES, Iowa -- LaVell Boyd scored 16 points and shot 4 of 8 from behind the arc and Missouri-Kansas City rallied in the second half to beat Drake 79-73 on Saturday.
Martez Harrison scored 13 and Darius Austin added 10 for the Kangaroos (2-2), who got 36 points from their bench compared with 12 for Drake and outscored the Bulldogs 40-22 in the paint.
Trailing 41-37 at halftime, UMKC pulled ahead 45-42 on Boyd's back-to-back 3-pointers. Thaddeus Smith's dunk sparked a 17-6 run for a 69-62 lead with 6:18 to play and the Kangaroos led by 10 with 43 seconds left.
Drake led by 10 early, but UMKC went up 15-10 on a 3-pointer by Kyle Steward. Drake's Kale Abrahamson scored five straight to spark a 15-3 run and the Bulldogs led at halftime.
Reed Timmer scored 23 for the Bulldogs (1-2), Abrahamson added 18 and Graham Woodward 14.
