High Point holds on to beat Gardner-Webb 66-64
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- John Brown scored 16 points with eight rebounds as High Point held on to beat Gardner-Webb 66-64 in a Big South matchup Saturday night.
Anthony Lindauer added another 16 points for the Panthers (6-2, 2-0). Lorenzo Cugini had 15.
High Point led 40-26 at the break but scored just 13 points in the first 14 minutes of the second period, allowing Gardner-Webb to close the gap to 53-46 with 5:33 to play.
With the Panthers hanging to a 66-64 lead and four seconds to go, Gardner-Webb's Harold McBride missed a 3-pointer and Haiishen McIntyre grabbed the rebound, preserving the win.
The Panthers averaged 48.2 percent shooting from the field including 50 percent from beyond the arc. Gardner-Webb hit 36.5 percent from the field including just 5 of 25 (20 percent) from distance.
Tyrell Nelson finished with a double-double, scoring 20 points with 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (3-6, 1-1).
