Chattanooga tops Furman, 62-54; improves to go 10-1 in SoCon
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Justin Tuoyo scored 19 points and Tennessee-Chattanooga won its eight-straight game to remain alone on top of the Southern Conference standings, avenging its lone loss by posting a 62-54 win over second-place Furman Saturday.
The Mocs have their first 21-3 start to a season since the 1982-83 team started 26-3. The win snapped Furman's five-game streak.
Tuoyo's two free throws sent Chattanooga to the locker room with a 26-21 lead at the break, and his 3-point play almost six minutes into the second half pushed the lead to 14, 39-25.
Furman battled back. Daniel Fowler's 3-pointer cut the Chattanooga lead to three, 55-52 with 1:10 left but Greg Pryor and Dee Oldham each hit a pair of free throws to put the game away.
Pryor finished with 11 points for the Mocs (21-3, 10-1).
Stephen Croone scored 18 points to lead Furman (14-11, 8-4).
