BEAUMONT, Texas -- Jontrell Walker made 3 of 6 from 3-point range for 17 points and Incarnate Word pulled ahead late and held on to beat Lamar 74-71 on Saturday.
Kyle Hittle's pair of free throws with 1:30 left capped a 7-0 run at 66-61 for Incarnate Word (12-8, 7-2 Southland), which also made its next eight free throws to finish the win.
Lamar (10-13, 2-9) had a strong start in both halves, opening the game with an 11-0 run and the second half with a 10-2 spurt. Incarnate Word had it tied 43-all by halftime and used a 14-3 run in the middle of the second to lead 59-56.
Hittle and Sam Burmeister had 11 points each and Simi Socks scored 10 for Incarnate Word.
Kevin Booze scored four baskets in the final 48 seconds, each time closing the Lamar deficit to three. He finished with 11 points while Nick Garth scored 14 and Quan Jones 13.
