Parks, NC Central beat Coppin St., advance in MEAC tourney
NORFOLK, Va. -- Jordan Parks scored 29 and grabbed 10 rebounds to help North Carolina Central cruise to a 91-43 win over ninth-seeded Coppin State in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday night.
Anthony McDonald hit four 3-pointers and scored 19 and Nimrod Hilliard added 12 points and six assists for NC Central (25-6), which will face either fourth-seeded Howard or No. 5 seed Delaware State in a semifinal Friday.
Top-seeded NC Central jumped out to a 12-1 lead as Coppin State (8-23) missed its first six shots. NC Central took a 44-22 advantage into halftime.
Parks made 13 of 16 field goals for NC Central, which shot 56.9 percent and forced 21 Coppin State turnovers.
Arnold Fripp scored 14 for Coppin State, which made 15 of 50 field goals and was outrebounded 39-23.
NC Central has won nine in a row overall and 35 straight against MEAC opponents.
