Rider Broncs vs Saint Peter's Peacocks
Washington helps St. Peter's upset Rider 68-59
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Desi Washington hit 15 of 16 free throws and scored 22 points as seventh-seeded St. Peter's upset second-seeded Rider 68-59 in the quarterfinals of the Metro Atlantic Athletic tournament.
Marin Dominique added 15 for the Peacocks (16-17), who made 30 of 39 free throws to advance to Sunday's semifinal against the Marist-Manhattan winner.
Jimmie Taylor and Khalil Alford had 10 apiece for Rider (21-11), which shot 35.6 percent (21 for 59) and made only 4 of 20 3-pointers while finishing 13 of 23 from the line.
The Broncs shot 28 percent in the first half (7 for 25) and fell behind 34-20. Teddy Okereafor's 3-pointer started a 10-0 that included Taylor's three-point play and layup to pull the Broncs within three four minutes into the second half.
St. Peter's rebuilt the lead to 10 as Dominique hit back-to-back 3s and after a Taylor layup Trevis Wyche scored five quick points and Rider never recovered.
