Vermont routs UMBC 66-39 in America East tournament
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Hector Harold hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points as No. 2 seed Vermont rolled to a 66-39 victory over seventh-seeded Maryland-Baltimore County in an America East Conference tournament quarterfinal on Wednesday night.
Vermont (18-12) will host third-seeded Stony Brook (22-10) in a semifinal on Sunday.
Ethan O'Day scored 12 points, Drew Urquhart 10, and Trae Bell-Haynes chipped in eight with five assists and four steals for the Catamounts, who shot 26 of 55 (47.3 percent), including 8 of 20 from long range.
Harold scored nine-straight Vermont points to make it 25-12 midway through the first half before taking a 32-16 halftime lead. The Catamounts cruised from there, leading by 32 with 8:36 left.
Will Darley had 14 points and nine boards for UMBC (4-26), which had its lowest scoring output since scoring 38 in a loss to Loyola-Maryland on Nov. 19.
